Esteemable Acts: Self-Care

Esteemable Acts: Self-Care

Taking care of yourself should be the number one goal each day. If you are not making your self-care of the utmost priority, you jeopardize the connection between your mind, body, and spirit. When you accomplish this trifecta of self-care, you are treating yourself well and creating your ability to help others.

Everyone knows that you cannot help others if you do not help yourself first. Regardless of what you may think, you are just as important as everyone else. Now, you just need to start putting self-care into action and you can begin to feel better in every way.

Make Time for Sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep is imperative for your health. After all the nights that you blacked out, passed out and came to, your body was suffering from not having regular sleep patterns. Allowing for sleep is of great importance so that you are physically, mentally, and spiritually renewed overnight.

Eat a Healthy Diet

Food is fuel for the body, so you should take special care in watching what you are eating. The body is fully capable of rejuvenating itself after drug and alcohol abuse, especially when you choose your diet wisely. Fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and water are the best choices to heal the body from the damage of drugs and alcohol.

Get Some Physical Exercise

Getting your blood and your endorphins flowing is a great way to practice self-care. You may not be ready for vigorous exercise, but starting with any physical activity is excellent. Go for a walk with a friend, try a Zumba class online, or see if you can use a hula hoop. Do whatever you enjoy so that you will continue exercising and build up stamina.

Manage Your Schedule

One thing you may overlook with self-care is how you spend your time. Staying busy with self-care and your recovery is important, although you should not overwhelm yourself. Saying “yes” to everything means that you could be saying “no” to some important things that you should be doing.

Having a schedule in place can keep you from stressing out and keep you on track. Self-care is making sure that you are staying healthy. You have already mistreated yourself enough in your addiction. Allowing yourself the resiliency to thrive in recovery will do wonders for your self-esteem and confidence.

If you treat yourself better, you are setting the standard of how others should treat you. Self-care can positively affect you, those around you, and how you will live sober. Take care of yourself and the results will be exponential for recovery.
